Build your first guide

This tutorial will guide you through the steps to build your first guidebook and get it ready to share with guests.

After building your first guide, be sure to check out the Libraries tutorial to learn how to quickly build additional guidebooks by using your first one as a starting point.

1

Access the Content Editor

  • Select the Content Editor tab in the Guidebook section of the left sidebar.
  • Find the property for which you want to build a guidebook and tap the “Create Guidebook” button.

You’ll be given the option to start from a template or start from scratch. In most cases it makes sense to select the “Start from Template” option then choose the “Starter Template.

2

Define the property’s access settings

If you chose to use the starter template your screen should look something like this.

Your first step should be to define the property’s access settings.

The Access Settings form let’s you specify whether you provide a dynamic door code or a fixed code, set when codes should be visible to guests, and give any other directions for accessing the property.

3

Start building your Home Guide content

Now you’re ready to start adding the information your guests need to know, from preparing for their trip, property details, and departure info.

Understanding the Guidebook Structure

Guidebooks are organized as a three-tier structure:

  1. Sections: These are the primary categories of information for your guests. They are just containers for Topics. You can have as many Sections as necessary. The Section name and icon are editable.
  2. Topics: Designed to help you organize information into sub-categories, Topics are containers for Content Blocks. Multiple Topics can be created inside each Section. The Topic name can be edited and visibility settings let you choose when and where each Topic will be seen.
  3. Content Blocks: All the actual information for your guests is in the Content Blocks. Multiple Content Blocks can be created inside each Topic and each block can contain one of the followin types of content:
    • Text
    • Image
    • Image Carousel
    • Video
    • Smart Content
    • Spacer
    • Divider

Add your first Topic:

Click the “Add Topic” button and choose “Create New Topic”.

The Topic edit screen is primarily a container where you’ll add Content Blocks. However, there are several important Topic-specific settings you’ll need to consider:

Visibility settings: The button at the top-left of the window lets you choose when (relative to their arrival time) you want the content in this Topic to be visible to guests.

The “Add to Quicklinks” button gives you the option to add this Topic as a Quicklink for easy access during a relevant phase of the guest journey component. For example, a “Parking” topic would be a useful Quicklink in the Arrival phase.

The “Show in Public Guidebook” toggle switch let’s you choose whether or not this Topic should be shown in the public guidebook for this property. For example, a topic that has content relevant only to a specific guest such as arrival time or access code, you would turn OFF the switch which will hide the Topic from the public guidebook.

Topic Title: Give the topic a short title that will help your guest quickly find the information the need.

Content Blocks: See the next step. . .

Add Content Blocks

Content Blocks hold all the actual information for your guests. A Topic can contain one or more Content Blocks, each with a different type of content.

New Topics are pre-loaded with one Content Block by default. Your first step is to select the type of content you want to add.

Content Types

Text: The WYSIWYG text editor provides a variety of formatting controls to help you present your information clearly. Supports custom field codes so you can insert synced content from your PMS.

Image: Images can be uploaded or you can provide a an image url.

Image Carousel: Add up to five images.

Video: Supports YouTube, Vimeo or direct video URLs.

Smart Content (beta): This AI-generated content-type lets you provide information uniquely-relevant to each guest. Select one of several pre-built prompts or write your own.

Spacer: Use as needed to refine the layout of your information.

Divider: A subtle element to help organize the content in your Topic.

What’s next?

If you need to build guidebooks for more than one property, you’ll be able to save a lot of time by saving content from your first guidebook to your library. You can save Content Blocks, Topics, Sections, and even entire guidebook templates.
